As journalist I wrote about small town government and organic cheese farms. Now a decade later, I write about these very full days with four young children and our life on the move with the military. Writing is no longer my profession, but it's still my passion.

More on painting
We got into the Kool-Aid again -- this time for finger paint. I talked about an art project involving this beverage mix for scratch-n-sniff paints last week. Today we tried the finger paint. L, C and I mixed a batch of this stuff first. It was a flop. In fact, it resembled oatmeal--certainly not anything you could paint with.
I adjusted the proportions and here's the successful batch I came up with.
1/4 c. flour
1 packet Kool-Aid
1/4 c. oil
1/2 c. boiling water
Mix it all together (kiddos can handle everything but the boiling water part) and voila! Messy, slimy paint to be applied to paper (using various body parts) right away.
First a little dabbling.
Some pretty vibrant works of art, I think.
And then it got messy.
I mean, get-the-hose-and-fill-the-kiddie-pool disgusting...
