Turtles

I found this pattern on Etsy a while back in hopes of finding a project I could tackle with L. She loves to sew and wanted to make something for her new sibling when he or she arrives this winter--a stuffed animal, of course. These little reptiles fit my sewing skills set, so we bought the pattern and went shopping for fabric.

When Auntie C was here, I offered to make one for her and she also wanted to put one together to take to a friend back home. L and C, of course, had to have one each in their fabric choices.

The pattern was simple to follow, but the copious amounts of cutting and the sheer volume of turtles I had committed to crafting made this a much more involved project than I had anticipated. Plus I had to come up with ways for unskilled fingers to "help" out with the workload, which was the idea in the first place. I ended up enlisting Auntie C's hand at whip-stitching the closures after I stuffed the pieces and L got to help me feed the shell pieces through the sewing machine.

Tiny Baby has yet to have one for his or her nursery stash, but I have until December, right? Maybe we can use it as a stuffer for our tiny peanut's first Christmas stocking ... which I also need to sew in time for the big arrival.

  3. Sounds like there's a lot of sewing in you're future, but well worth the effort. These turtles are fantastic!
