This is going well

18 weeks. 8 new pounds. Little kicks and punches. Strong heartbeat. I'm feeling fantastic. Craving pickles and buffalo wings like it's nobody's business.

We had a terrific family visit to the birth center today. Although, C was totally petrified when our midwife finished our check-up by showing the kiddos a rubbery, avocado-sized replica of a 16-week-old fetus. L was fascinated to see what her tiniest sibling actually resembles, but C couldn't back away from it fast enough. He leaped into N's arms and began to sob. C thought it was our actual baby. N reassured him that the "squishy baby" was just pretend and that our baby is still inside mama and will be much bigger when he or she comes to be with us. He helped C lean over to give my belly a kiss and he calmed down.

I suspect C will never fully trust that unpredictable midwife again. Who knows what kind of creepy creatures she might brandish on future visits to the birth center...

  1. OMG, you look fabulously pregnant!!! I'm so happy to hear about the significant weight gain, too. Poor little C. I wonder what was so frightening about the little baby? And how was the wait time this this visit? I love you all so much. Hugs and loves.
