As journalist I wrote about small town government and organic cheese farms. Now a decade later, I write about these very full days with four young children and our life on the move with the military. Writing is no longer my profession, but it's still my passion.

Skoy
Have you seen these? Adorable. Cheerful. Anti-funk. Biodegradable. Reusable for a long, long time. It's a sponge and a wash cloth in one.
I was sitting in the living room night after night, post dinner-time catching whiffs of the funky sponge sitting beside the kitchen sink. I had chocked my sensitivity to unsettling sponge aromas to pregnancy-induced over-active olfactory glands until N pointed out these nifty sponge cloths in the latest issue of Cooks' Illustrated and said we should ditch the funky sponges and try these. Two days and $8 later, we were happily wiping dishes clean with non-smelly cleaning implements.
Bonus: The company we ordered ours from is in San Diego County, so they ship fast and we get to support a local business.
Downsides: You'll need to hang onto a scratchy sponge to get at the caked-on crud Skoy sponges can't tackle. Also be cautious while cleaning sharp knives, as these slim pads don't provide the same buffer as a cushier sponge.
