Thanks to all of you who have been checking in to see how my hometown is faring with the epic flood of the past two days.
My parents are fine--they took their travel trailer to higher ground when they realized evacuation was necessary at about 8 a.m. Monday. They had little time to put furniture up, but it looks like that might have been futile since they estimate about three feet of water entered the house. They have no cell phone reception, phone lines are down, city water lines are destroyed, etc. We've been in limited contact with them--just enough to know they're OK. We don't have word on how Dad's service station fared--it's along I-5 where the interstate was closed for two days, so it doesn't look great.
Please pray for the families who have lost everything. There's a lot of poverty in these rural areas and flood insurance isn't on everyone's list of priorities. People's businesses have been wiped out in the span of a day. Can you imagine how you'd manage to put Christmas together in the midst of all of this? This will be devastating to many.
One bright spot is that people in this area have a strong sense of community and believe in helping their neighbors at any cost. That's what will sustain them.
More updates to come.
I'm so sorry to hear about this flooding. I will hold your parents and all their community in prayer. It's hard for me to imagine how God intends to use this disaster for His purposes and glory, but I do know He will.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the call today. I haven't heard anything new from my family. The pictures are incredible. I am always so shocked by the flooding in our area. Send my love to your parents when you speak with them.
