Introducing ... Lugano

Handsome, isn't he? He's built of Thai rubberwood, patterned after the craftsman-era architectural styling N so enjoys and is finished in a not-too-stuffy farmhouse style with built-in nicks and dings that give it character(that's the part I like). And he promises to be forgiving of the stresses he will no doubt endure from tiny hands and sloppy dinner-party hosts. World Market gave us a great deal and we promised to take good care of him.

Our blog readers know this was a tough and well-thought-out decision for us. Anticipation of holiday gatherings in our swanky new condo finally placed enough pressure on us to find the "perfect" dining-room set to replace our old hodgepodge of Samsonite and Formica. N and I finally found a table and seating that fulfills our separate desires for grown-up appeal and family-friendly functionality for this important furniture fixture in our home.

And what of old Mabel the table? Our poor dilapidated dinette set from the 1960s? She has a prominent place in the loft. L used her for her artist's easel today while painting Christmas wrap. And her chairs have been relegated to the closet to be used only in times of desperate seating emergencies.

  1. Nice job - looks like a formidable piece of furniture you got there. I especially like the bench!

  2. Yahoo! Now I shan't worry that I'll fall through the chair whilst dining with your family. It is very beautiful and I, also, like the bench.

  3. Congrats! What a lovely table. World Market is the best! Our WM coffee table has survived many a spill (and recently stray crayon marks) I think you'll be quite happy.

  4. He is gorgeous! We met his cousin here at the WM in Washington and admired how handsome and strong he was! The wood is solid, not like the soft stuff that accepts marks so easily. He looks like he is making a great addition to your new home!
