Without each other ...

... he would be without a hand to help him get up to height on the swings before letting go and pumping on his own.

... she would lack crayon-scrawled drawings of herself wearing an orange dress, in a pumpkin patch, in front of a building with a gargoyle on top.

... he wouldn't have an Annie to his Jack when it's time for an adventure in the Magic Treehouse.

... she wouldn't have a Jason the Sparrow Man to compliment her Fawn the Fairy when Neverland calls.

... they would both be without a lasting audience for streams of knock-knock jokes.

"Knock, knock!"
"Who's there?"
"Peensy Pop."
"Peensy Pop who?"
"Peensy Pop pie, and I don't care!"

"OK, OK! Knock, knock!"
"Who's there?"
"Halloween."
"Halloween who?"
"Orange you glad it's Halloween? Ah, ha ha!"

... I would more often hear: "I'm bored."

... there's a good chance he wouldn't be potty trained or know his alphabet.

... she wouldn't laugh as much.

... he wouldn't know what a chiffon skirt is.

... she wouldn't know what a light saber is.

... they each would lack a best friend -- one who understands, who will ultimately offer forgiveness and who will always be right back.

Now that I'm editing this, I see that Emily's sibling observations seem to have inspired mine today. Be sure to visit Keeping Time to catch her beautiful phrases today.

  1. One of my favorite things about being a parent is observing the role my kids play in each others' lives. My brother is one of my favorite people in the world, and I pray my children will the same for one another. (Also, it makes me giggle to think that someday these boys of mine will know what chiffon is! ;)

  2. And now the baby has to find a way into thisvery established plan. He will probably become a clown to control when they pay attention to him.

  3. It's so sweet to watch your kids grow into best friends right in front of your eyes! I love this list!

Last night I heard my girls planning how they were going to live next door to each other when they were grown-ups and be aunts to one another's children, etc. I love watching the sibling bond in action!

    Aren't we blessed?

  4. I wish I could muster this confident post that my only child will be just fine finding her way in this big old world without a sibling by her side. Alas, I cannot. Makes me sad.
But is also makes me happy for your kiddos, and for Emily's too.
