Little rider

Calvin successfully mastered a two-wheeler last week, without training wheels.

Isn't that remarkable?

 

His determination and patience were heartening to me, especially in light of his age.

I don't know a lot of 4-year-olds who can do this.

 

But Calvin was motivated, and he learned to ride by himself just in the nick of time.

The kids in our new neighborhood zip up and down the street on scooters and skateboards and bikes every afternoon.

 

And everyone knows if you have an older sibling, it's ride or get left behind...

 

... which is a fate worse than death, unless you need a glass of orange juice.

Then it's OK to take a break.
