7 Quick'uns

1. It has been raining here for three days. Three. God-bless-ed. Days.

It also happens to be 75 degrees, so between the moisture falling from the sky and that which, ahem, collects under the armpits, it's impossible to stay dry.

I've stopped drying my hair in the morning.

2. The kids have embraced the weather and all of the muddy fun that can be had in it.

3. As a result, our carpet may never be the same.

The virtues of Oxyclean cannot be overstated when it comes to erasing tiny brown footprints from my home and my nightmares.

4. This first week of solo parenting has been rough. Everything from schooling to grocery-shopping to walking from the door to the car has felt arduous and harrowing.

So I've tried to think of some ways to simplify my everyday routine in order to preserve my mental health.

5. First I made breakfast for dinner last night, and I think I elevated it to a new level of laziness and deliciousness with PB&J french toast.

Adding a few slices of bacon and some fresh fruit to this belated-breakfast bombshell made me a hero among small children. Triumph!

6. And I decided to foster a little responsibility by assigning new post-meal tasks to my oldest children. They are now in charge of the complete bussing of dishes from the table and stowing them in the dishwasher.

I think these small steps may just help me survive the weekend (and the month for that matter) intact.

7. Lastly, I think Liliana and Calvin might have poison ivy, which is itchy and blistery and just awful. Does anyone know of any tricks to soothing the itch? And how long does this stuff stick around anyway? It's already been a week.

  1. Hang in there! I admire you for homeschooling, esp when you throw H in the mix! I hope the rain ends soon so you can all get rid of some energy (cleanly!)

  2. The stuff can stick around a very long time as my neighbor proved, if the blisters are popping and staying moist, i would suggest a doctor's visit. Said neighbor had six weeks of itching before she went to see the doctor and has minor scarring on her arm. The doctor said something along the lines of - I thought everyone looked online these days and would come in well before this.

  3. Thank you, K, for the encouragement.

Stitchnpenny--Thanks for the tips. I think we're headed to the doc next week.
