7 Quick Takes

1. We finally found a house! It's a condo very much like our current home, it's only a few blocks away, has four bedrooms and it seems like a good fit for us.

I'm dreading the move--mostly because I can't do much to help. We move in three weeks. Any thoughts on where to get free boxes? Craigslist didn't offer anything within a reasonable driving distance and N's checking Costco today. I'd love any creative moving tips you have to offer.

2. We've survived a whole week with three children and a regular work schedule for N. It's been exhausting and frustrating, joyful and exciting, interesting to say the least. I think we're doing just fine--fantastic at times, even.

3. One of my favorite Christmas gifts was actually given to my husband. This flexi-tripod is great for setting up a family portrait when there's no one to take our picture. It has flexible legs that can be wrapped around railings or stretched out to take photos at slightly different angles. Thanks, Mom and Dad!

4. My most favorite Christmas gift was this:

It's a bound version of my blog. This is the second year my husband has designed and published a year's worth of blog entries for me and it's the first time I've cried twice over the same recycled gift idea.

It makes my work look so polished and pretty and is a tangible way to save these family memories. He used Blurb.com and that site saves a copy of each volume till kingdom come--just in case we lose our bound versions in one of the 150 household moves we will undergo in our lifetime.

5. OK, really my favorite Christmas present received by members of this family: C's Legos. Hours of creative fun for the entire family.

6. I'm getting really good at typing one-handed while cradling a sleeping babe in the other arm and balancing on my exercise ball in front of the computer.

7. At last, you've been so patient to read through this drivel, when what you really came here for was another glimpse of our adorable newborn. Oh, you're too kind.

(As an aside, it's a good thing he's so precious. All of this feeding, changing, swaddling, shooshing, bouncing, holding, slinging, lullabying, night-waking and crying (mine and his) are only manageable because I adore him so very much. God made newborns impossibly sweet so parents wouldn't return them to the birth center when the going gets rough.)

At any rate, without further ado: Sir H ...

  1. I'm so glad you found a house! I was curious, since we hadn't heard anything in a while. Since you can't help as much as you'd like to, take comfort in the fact that you get to supervise :)

I love that blog book! I had no idea they could look so professional and lovely! I've GOT to get one.

  2. You found a house?!? Hooray! I'm hoping the move goes well and you'll be all settled in before you know it...but no matter what, at least that's one huge worry off your mind. I'm so glad!

Christmas looks wonderful at your house. That blog book is amazing, and I'm so glad you included pictures. I'm planning to get one done before we leave Italy, so I'm thrilled to have your recommendation.

The baby--and big kid!--pictures are as precious as ever. Keep 'em coming!

    As is the baby!

  4. Do they have PetSmart in California? We always have great luck finding boxes there. It's one of the only places that doesn't smush them for recycling.

  5. The baby is PRECIOUS! So leeeetle! I need to go squeeze mine ;)

I LOVE Blurb. This Christmas was the second year I made our family blog into a book for both sets of grandparents, and I'm thinking of doing it with my personal blog when I hit two years of blogging in a couple months. Too much fun.

Congrats on finding a new house, and hope things go smoothly (as they possibly can) with the move!

  6. I am so glad you are back to blogging....I sure missed you while you were away!
As for boxes...I know you are probably going to cringe...but Wal-Marche (walmart) was good to us when we moved. We called ahead and picked up boxes at 7am...they were the boxes from the goodies stocked the night before. We didn't have to buy anything other than some bubble wrap.
