A morning off

Yesterday was divine.

He was home from work.

He took them to the natural history museum,

where they experimented with things,

watched 30 seconds of a 3-D dinosaur movie until big girl became so freaked out by the leaping lizards that they had to exit the theater before the end of the opening credits.

I stayed home ... in a quiet house.

I turned on some Miles Davis. I sat near the fireplace until the sun came out and warmed my living-room. Then I spread out my sewing supplies and got to work on lingering Halloween projects.

All by myself.

Well, almost all by myself.

Later we had a guest for dinner. Grandpa V is in town for work and he happens to be an admirer of fabulous Halloween costumes. So we gave ours a test spin.

N cooked pasta and chorizo with mussels.

This was L and C's first experience with mussels. They called them "clobsters."

They ate them by the handful and asked for more.

The kiddos stayed up late to watch "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown," which happens to be one of Grandpa V's favorites.

I went to bed early.

It was a good day for all of us.

  1. So happy you had a morning off! Beau and I were just discussing the great perks of military life, yes they are gone lots...but they also get wonderful times of being home.
