Texas

Today was a record day for us. We accomplished about 430 miles and finished a good chunk of Texas. L had a rough start to the morning--understandably so--being a bit sleep-deprived and deciding she'd like to have more control over her life in the form of tantrums, but we made good time despite the late start.

Sadly we crossed Cajun country during breakfast time, so we missed out on the Blue Dog Cafe and other tantalizing eats in Breaux Bridge, La. No time to grab even a quick bottle of "Slap Ya' Mama" Cajun seasoning, either, darn it. The road between Baton Rouge and Lafayette was nearly all elevated over the bayou--an amazing engineering feat. Once we hit Texas, it was an almost immediate change in landscape, to brown rolling hills and ranches. L enjoyed spotting windmills and fields full of cows and horses.

Today's blessings: Pitted prunes, Vruit brand juice boxes, activity books and running diaper-free in the lawn behind the Cracker Barrel outside Beaumont, Tx. Gas $2.77 per gallon here.

Things we could do without: 550 more miles of Texas tomorrow.

  3. All aboard the Gamiz train! Nonstop service between the coasts. On a side note, I can hear the ocean from my window. It is ridiculous here.
