Wrapping up the summer

Here we are. I've been occupied with late-night Olympics viewing and exploring the world of Facebook (how addicting?). I've lacked inspiration for blogging for a while. Here's a quick update on our end-of-summer activities:

C is babbling and cruising -- still waiting for just the perfect opportunity to take his first steps. He loves shoes and requests we put some on his tiny feet at all times. He crawls up with shoes in hand saying: "Shh, Shh." Then he brings us ours and points to the door as if he were a puppy bringing us the leash for a walk. He's ever so cute, even-tempered and busy.

L is obsessed (no exaggeration) with all things ballet. We've located a dance school in San Diego for her to join when we get settled there. Meantime, she's pirouetting around the house in her dress-up tutu and devours ballet books until she's absolutely committed to memory every position, ballet character name and costume design. Her favorites our "Lili at Ballet" by Rachel Isadora and anything from Katherine Holabird's "Angelina Ballerina" series. She's a very focused and determined three-year-old at times.

During these sultry summer months, we've been visiting the beautiful (and pleasantly air-conditioned) downtown library often, hitting the beach, dodging rain showers to fit in playground time and just being at home, while we still have one.

N is in San Diego this week checking out neighborhoods, rentals, etc. He found us an adorable Spanish-style duplex unit in a seemingly fantastic location, but we're waiting to see if it's available in our time frame. All the while, our poor little house in the south is still on the market, with only spurts of interest here and there. Everyone is looking for a great deal right now. Patience.

Back to fiddling with our new wooden train set, which is mostly a backdrop for copious emergency rescue dramas involving the medivac helicopter, Dr. Grandma and some pretty terrible train derailments resulting in bumped knees and broken legs for some of the passengers. Don't worry. They're made of wood and they heal quickly.

  2. Such beautiful kids you have! Is that the little Mexican dress from Stephanie? And then of course the tutu. C is sooooooo adorable. I love your updates on his and L's personalities.

  3. Indeed that's the Mexican dress. You'd be amazed at the compliments she gets when she wears it, which is often. One southern mama actually said she got onto eBay to search for similar styles b/c she remembers wearing these dresses as a child.

  4. The kids are so cute! We have a ballet lover here too -- it is so much fun! Call us if you need anything during the storm.
