We're going on vacation next week and we're all pretty excited about it.
Well, to be honest, aside form the excitement over visiting with family we've been missing so much, I've had mixed emotions about this venture home to the west coast.
I wasn't sure how ready I'd be to return to our old neighborhood, old friends and favorite haunts, just a handful of months after we had to say good-bye.
I wasn't sure if I was emotionally ready to visit there again and then have to face returning to our new home on the east coast, while it still feels a bit unfamiliar and shaky.
During recent weeks, though, as spring has arrived early and we've pushed ourselves outside to explore even more of what surrounds us, I'm feeling ready.

I totally understand that tension! Yes, it is good and it is fun to see you building your life. :) Are you guys seeing people while you are out here or do you have your time all accounted for? I have been reading that you are going on vacation, but I didn't know where.
ReplyDeleteHi, B! I'm so happy to see your comment here. Yes, we are attempting to "see" people. If you're hinting at a playdate ... we'd LOVE to see you. We can't commandeer the rental car for the longer trip to LA, but if you're in the neighborhood ... I'll be in touch early next week.
ReplyDeleteI think you and I were hanging out in the same place today, heart-wise :) I was musing (and wrote) about the places we've been, as we too settle into our home-for-now. Enjoy your vacation, my friend!
ReplyDeleteSo very happy that you have reached the point that your house is now a home. That is such a necessity for military families, but there is a price for each move. I have a friend that moved often and she actually came away with a great method to make the transition - identify the things other than her family that made home feel like home and seek them out as soon as possible in her new location. For her it was a church, a park or play area where she and her kids could be comfortable, and a great grocery store. For her public schools were chosen before the move, as were these things and she always looked forward to these things. Every person is different, but I bet once you figure out those things that top your list the transitions will be better.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe beautiful L is still wearing our little embroidered Mexican dress. That dress has seen a lot of adventures in its 20 or more years! And survived a lot of washes, too! Stephanie and L can write a book of stories from the point of view of that little "vestido de nina".
