We're keeping our days full while N is in Waikiki for a few more days of business. He's surfing, golfing, hanging with old friends, dining out at lavish restaurants and, oh yeah, working a little, too.
On the home front, L had a sleepover at our house on Thursday with her best pal N and her Mama K. We made homemade pizzas and stayed up late reading books and getting out of bed a couple of times for giggle-filled runs to the potty together and all were tired and a little grouchy the next morning. Thankfully naps came easy in the afternoon on Friday, so we caught up on rest after our night of overindulgent fun.
On Saturday, I enlisted our good friend J to be a stand-in papa for us so I could attend practice for a co-ed slow-pitch tournament I'm playing in at the end of this month. It was hot and humid that morning and I lost about 80 ounces of fluid through sweating, but the game I played for 10 years in my childhood slowly came back to me in little bits as we practiced. Oh, yeah, I was the only girl there, too, which was sort of intimidating. The guys were in their 40s and all over 6-feet tall and they were easily hitting balls over the fence right and left. I think I'll need to hit the batting cages one more time so as not to make a complete fool out of myself come tournament day. I'm wretchedly sore today. I haven't used my body's softball-player muscles since well before I made the two kids. Whew!
Today: rest, groceries and dodging these fantastic thunder storms we've been bombarded with all weekend. I heard lightening strike our property the other night and our DVD player hasn't been the same since.
I really didn't know you were so athletic. You surprised me with your volleyball skills and now baseball?? I'm glad you can get out there again and play. I'm kind of scared of the big guys though...
