Here's a photo essay from our week. En lieu of captions I'll give a synopsis of our activities including some project ideas that were fun for us and are worthy in my humble opinion of sharing with other mamas searching for indoor fun.
First: The piggy penny bank. After hearing about a project at church on Sunday that would require some money to purchase audio Bible stories for children in Africa, Miss L decided she HAD to build her own piggy bank to save some pennies to help. So, we wrapped a sheet of craft foam around a metal mixed-nuts can, glued on a curly pipe-cleaner tail and slit a hole in the lid--viola! Piggy bank. Collecting change all week to fill it has been fun, too.
Next: Masking-tape shapes on the hardwood floor. Endless games: Simon says...find the shape I'm describing...find the shape that starts with H...scoot your brother to the oval...etc.
Check out my "favorite link" (on the left-hand side of the blog) to Montessori by Hand (shout out to cousin Jen for sharing this resource). Mrs. Montessori by Hand lists instructions for making beautiful mod-podge stick puppets. We'll try that next week.
And finally, we took a tots' class at the zoo on Thursday, where L got to touch a live chinchilla, lizard and chicken. Mr. C tore apart the rubber floor puzzle and watched fish in the aquarium while L had her lesson. Later L wrestled an alligator in the wild Florida exhibit. We're wiped out and it's only Thursday.
Wow! Not much of a "photo" essay. I never did understand how newspapers could ever run a story with only pictures and no words. No words?
Great essay with your great photos. I copied the top one to use as my desktop background. (Mr. C's shirt is sopping wet with drool! Maybe some teeth will be coming in?) How fun that he's ready and able to interact with L now. She must really like having a pesty little brother. Your shapes fun was very creative! Shout outs to both you and Cousin J for being such great mamas.
ReplyDeleteI love the tape on floor....I'll have to use this with letters. We're going hard and strong right now on letter recognition. I think B might even enjoy to try and make them on his own. Great idea! Thanks.
