Mrs. G goes to Washington

I had the opportunity to cover a press conference at the White House today.

Never mind that it turned out to be wholly unrelated to the story I was writing for MilitaryOneClick today.

I had planned on a Q&A with the First Lady, but ended up with the POTUS instead. He talked about Syria and Boston, guns, his upcoming trip to Mexico and Jason Collins.

I got to feel like a real reporter again for an hour.

It was a lot like I had remembered press conferences being, especially from my time covering state government in WA and ME.

Stuffy, over-packed room. Reporters and producers jockeying for space. Speculation about what today's story would be.

Only this time it was at the White House. With the president and national media.

I don't know where to put this in my scrapbook of journalism experiences, but I'm really glad I got to have it.

  1. So impressive! I'm glad you got to have that experience as well! We're you really right there?! Did he remember meeting you a few years back? Lol! Congrats !

  2. It was a fun day. I was right there in the press room, although shoved pretty close to the door due to much place in the press pecking order here. I don't think Mr. Obama was even aware of my presence, but I'm *sure* he would have remembered us meeting 6 years ago. ;)
