I had the opportunity to cover a press conference at the White House today.
Never mind that it turned out to be wholly unrelated to the story I was writing for MilitaryOneClick today.

I had planned on a Q&A with the First Lady, but ended up with the POTUS instead. He talked about Syria and Boston, guns, his upcoming trip to Mexico and Jason Collins.

I got to feel like a real reporter again for an hour.
It was a lot like I had remembered press conferences being, especially from my time covering state government in WA and ME.
Stuffy, over-packed room. Reporters and producers jockeying for space. Speculation about what today's story would be.
Only this time it was at the White House. With the president and national media.

So impressive! I'm glad you got to have that experience as well! We're you really right there?! Did he remember meeting you a few years back? Lol! Congrats !
ReplyDeleteIt was a fun day. I was right there in the press room, although shoved pretty close to the door due to much place in the press pecking order here. I don't think Mr. Obama was even aware of my presence, but I'm *sure* he would have remembered us meeting 6 years ago. ;)
