Firecrackers

He's a ham.

I mean he doesn't even have to try to be funny and we're all in stitches. I remember a time when he was about 2 and I said to Lili: "If we didn't have Calvie, we wouldn't laugh half as much as we do."

And it's true.

This child is grabbing independence by the fistful and cramming it down his throat as quickly as he can manage. He's currently mastering potty-training, climbing in and out of his own bed, speaking in full declarative sentences, putting on his own shoes and filling his water glass right from the tap.

But, by golly, he still needs his Mama.

When he shouts "MaMAA!" it looks a little something like this photo.

Did you hear it? It is a desperate plea for immediate attention, and as far as I'm concerned, it is a reminder that I am still in the center of his universe. (I like it there.)

Have we talked about how grown-up she is lately?

We should.

She's missing or about to be missing several of her most important teeth.

She recently tackled and destroyed our library's 15-book summer reading club goal in just two weeks.

And today (Independence Day 2012) shall go down in history as the day she passed the deep-end test at the pool. You know, the one where you swim the length of the pool, tread water for 60 seconds and the lifeguard gives you a green bracelet that lets you into the exclusive club of diving-board users?

Yep. She did it.

These three.

They are bursts, pops and sizzles. With them, the show is loud and always spectacular.

Happy 4th y'all! Enjoy the show!

  1. You are so fantastic at making the commonplace outstanding. I would have written a simple declarative statment with no whimsy or imagination and you paint a world that allows me to imagine how great your lives are.

  3. What a sweet bunch of children :) Congrats to your daughter on such a big accomplishment. I know she will enjoy that this summer!! And as exhausting as it can be sometimes, isn't it the best to be the center of the universe in the eyes of our child...no better place to be :)
