January rejuvenation

This week was full of new things.

There was the start of a weekly science class for Lili at the nature center, with promises of future owl pellet dissections and hikes through the leafless woods followed by hot cocoa in the classroom.

***

There was sounding out three-letter words with Calvin as he checked off his first five completed books for our library's winter reading club.

***

There was some snow -- just enough to make everything magical for one night -- followed by warm days, which turned our backyard into a mud pit the likes of which northern Virginia hasn't seen since the last monster truck rally.

***

There were the loops and slides of first cursive handwriting lessons.

***

There was watching the Broncos pull-off a post-season win for the first time since we were in college. Tickets were purchased for a trip to Boston for Nick to join friends at the game this weekend.

***

There were swim lessons for Calvin in an indoor pool.

This isn't his first take on swim class, but it looks like he may actually conquer his fear of getting his head wet this time around.

***

We moved Calvin's bed back into Henry's room, now that the baby's night-wakings have tapered off. Furniture has been rearranged and everyone is embracing their new spaces.

***

There was basketball for Liliana with nervousness, some pretty seasoned fellow players, a squeaky gym floor, water breaks and a coach who wins points with me for learning the names of all of the children before they even stepped on the court.

***

Costumes were ordered for the spring dance recital and the first steps of a new ballet routine were practiced.

There was was my inaugural attempt at making the childcare experience a little more engaging for the youngest siblings at our homeschool group. I created and taught a short lesson, we sang, we giggled, we read together, but most importantly I got to snuggle with Henry for a solid 30 minutes.

I left the blog alone for a bit, and I didn't let it nag me from its lonely place in our neglected office. I let myself be caught up in the fullness of my days, and didn't worry about our activities going undocumented. That's a first, too.

  3. Love everything you guys are busy with, and the pictures of the kiddos -- they are just so cute!

And good for you on not being nagged about your blog break; I think they're in order from time to time, and I'm glad you really lived while you were silent here :)

Also: I think I owe you a pair of toddler pants!

  4. Love it!!! Thanks for the updates on all the kids and you two, too. I really like that the kids are all doing their own new and exciting things and that they're thriving and enjoying life on the east coast. Love you all.

  5. I have missed reading your blog! I was going to ask Nick when he arrived today whether you were still writing! And trust me, we will bully him into wearing some sort of Patriots gear! Although I have to admit I cannot think of a better thing that has happened to football - or professional sports for that matter - than Tim Tebow. I think the last sporting event Keith invited Nick to ended with him racing off in the middle of the night to get home in time for Calvin's birth. Hopefully we will not wake up tomorrow morning and find him gone again!
