I watched him zip up and down the driveway on his scooter, then his bike, then the neighbor's scooter, then his bike again.
He is lightning fast these days and eager to show off to the older kids.
When there was a pause in the action, he spotted me in the rocking chair on the front porch, my hands whipping thread through the wounded wing of his favorite stuffed dragon.
"Can I help you?" he asked.
"Of course. He's your dragon."
He sat down and gently pinched the needle between his thumb and forefinger, then began stitching per my instructions.
In a few brief moments, the stitches were done, I tied off the threads and he was on his way, having successfully repaired a beloved friend.
And that, I thought as he hopped back over to his scooter, is a renaissance man in the making.

I love this story! Rob is pretty handy with a needle...little C reminded me of how much I love that little bit.

ReplyDeleteYahoo for the renaissance man in the works! :)
ReplyDeleteA few weeks ago I walked into my bedroom and found Chris sitting in the middle of the bed mending the pom-poms that had fallen off Penelope's pink, fuzzy hat, and it made me utterly, ridiculously, out-of-all-bounds happy. Nothing beats a Renaissance Man!
