Sleep vignettes

Henry's finally sleeping through the night.

***

This has been an especially elusive milestone for our third baby.

We don't really know why.

We've read a lot of books about it.

We still don't know why sleep is tricky for Henry.

***

Henry now wakes for the day sometime between 5:45 and 6:30 a.m.

I am not a morning person.

My new bedtime is 9:45 p.m.

***

Henry isn't napping well.

It's not that he doesn't nap. It's just that on most days, it takes about an hour to convince him to sleep and then he gets very little sleep to follow all of that hard work.

***

We all adore Henry.

It's nice to have a break from Henry in order to more fully appreciate him.

***

I've been drinking more coffee lately.

My favorite coffee comes from the island of Sulawesi. It's near Indonesia.

Nick bought me some of my favorite coffee last week when he was on a business trip.

The coffee is almost gone.

***

Panera has good iced tea, if you're needing an afternoon pick-me-up to keep from dozing off inside the reading gazebo at the library.

***

My big kids like to sleep. They slumber long and hard every night.

Calvin never turns his nose up at the opportunity to nap. He loves his bed.

Henry, on the other hand, doesn't fully grasp the restorative, perspective-altering results of a glorious afternoon snooze.

Perhaps someday he will.

Maybe he won't.

Either way, we love him. And we're thankful he's at least sleeping through the night.

***

I'd like to go take a nap now.

  1. This is a great post!!! My two little ones were both late to the "Sleep thru the night" club.

And they are both generally up by 6AM.

    Both of them.

    My bedtime is 9 pm!

    Thank Heaven for coffee!!!
