I recently stumbled upon a great way to beef up my book cache and teaching materials stash for L and C's kitchen-table learning. Scholastic periodically holds warehouse sales for teachers and home-schoolers all over the country. This Scholastic page has the information about how to register for the next one nearest you.
L and I scoped out the sale nearest us last weekend and we came home with the booty pictured above (plus a couple of gifties not shown) for $21. My favorite find is our $5 hardbound copy of "Be Glad Your Nose is on Your Face"--a beautifully illustrated book of silly poems probably geared toward elementary-aged children, but we like a lot of it, too. Plus we scored a hardbound Magic Tree House Book #36 for $1 and a few workbooks, too. I found this info on one of my favorite go-to Web sites for ideas about teaching children at home. It's an awesome resource and if you sign up for the newsletter you get great ideas sent right to your inbox on a regular basis. Even if you don't describe yourself as a home-schooler, these tips are helpful in the everyday teaching we all do as mothers who want their children to love learning. Happy teaching!
Just look at the excitement in her eyes. What a great find!
