After our fifth-or-so reading of this book, L pulled out paper and glue and wanted to build her own hat. Here's what she made.
As journalist I wrote about small town government and organic cheese farms. Now a decade later, I write about these very full days with four young children and our life on the move with the military. Writing is no longer my profession, but it's still my passion.

Hats
I love a well-written children's book when I find one, especially when it inspires creative play long after we've read the story. So I'm recommending "Zara's Hats" by Paul Meisel, especially for preschool-aged girls. It's a sweet story about a little girl who helps her father bring his once-thriving hat business back from the brink of its demise. I love that the little girl is the heroine of this story without having to use any super-human powers--just her brain and a little creativity.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful hat on a beautiful little girl. I did notice the purple underbrim. And cute dress with center pocket. And sweet little brother poking around not missing out on anything.
