Insect encounters

We go to the nature center near our house periodically so I can remind myself and my children that there is so much life beyond the concrete. We go there for wee workshops but always get more than we bargain for just by scratching around in the woods and unearthing loads of weird Floridian creatures. This is a "typical" grasshopper the tots spied, which was about five times larger than any grasshopper I'd ever seen. On the way out to the car it hopped onto L's leg, which produced a great squeal and probably gave the poor bug a heart attack.

  1. That's one ugly grasshopper. The kind that would give N nightmares! The kids are, on the other hand, very cute.
