Backyard pics and a flood update

The upcoming cost-of-living hike associated with our move to southern California will likely not afford us this much space for recreating at home, so we're enjoying the lawn and garden while we have them. It was a sunny weekend on the eve of N's departure yesterday for some business in Maine. It's currently sub-freezing under crystal blue skies there with much snow on the ground--I feel some pangs of nostalgia for New England, but not so much that I'd dream of leaving balmy winters for shoveling and bundling up the kiddos for five months solid.

Also, a quick update on my mom and dad following the devastating early December flood. Great news! After much mud-schlepping, cleaning, stripping down walls and floors to the studs, drying with super-heaters and rebuilding, they are scheduled to move into their rental property (across the street from the main house/my childhood home) this weekend! This step represents countless hours of volunteer work from strangers, friends and family members plus lots of donated supplies and labor and an amazing sense of hope and perseverance on mom and dad's part. I'm so proud of the two of them. I also can't say enough about my brother and sister-in-law for all of the support, hard work, rallying volunteers and just offering a grandkid distraction during this time. God has moved in some amazing ways for our family over the past few months.

Work continues on the main house to hopefully get it ready for mom and dad to move home later this spring. They are in really great shape at this point. I've been nagging mom to send photos when she can, so hopefully I can share those on our blog, too. Mom really hopes to have a garden with new life springing up from the mud by summertime. That river muck should be fertile soil for some fresh organic veggies.

Thank you for all of the thoughts and prayers!

  1. Thank you for the update about your parents. I have continued to pray for them and their community. Mr C is changing into a little boy before my very eyes. His eyes look more like N's now. And Miss L's so pretty. I love her little shoes and the dress. I can't wait to come play with you all in your warm backyard!

  2. PS. I'm glad to see a picture of the pretty mama in the family. Changed out the swing seat? BTW, when I click on the pictures they don't get enlarged like the previous posts????

  3. I imported these differently from Picasa because I did some cropping to make them look better (L was raking bottomless in the background of one). So this is as big as they get.
