Run, Run Rudolph!

"OK, elves, come in here right this minute! I would like to know who left the reindeer stalls open last night!"

A little confused, three very focused students stand up from their places in front of worksheets and cut-and-paste lessons at the dining room table.

"The whole workshop floor is covered in reindeer droppings and we have all of these toys to finish wrapping. Now we have this huge mess to clean up, too!"

The biggest of the three elves gets it right away and starts to play along.

"Oh, it wasn't me," she presents. "I was busy wrapping gifts."

The middle one plays along, too, although slightly confusing his fantasy characters.

"I didn't do it either I was doing my Smurf homework."

Meanwhile, the littlest elf has toddled off to the TV room, where he  has taken to stuffing his cheeks with reindeer poo.

"Well," I announce in an overly exasperated tone, hands on hips, head tilted, finger wagging, "it's Christmas Eve, and if we don't get all of this cleaned up, we'll never get the sleigh ready in time. I need your help."

"In the den there are math problems to crunch, buckets to fill with (mini-marshmallow) "droppings" and Chuck Berry cued up on the radio. Now get to work!"

And just like that, a week of stomach viruses and homeschool doldrums suddenly seems inspired. And fun!
