Literacy at our house

Want to know something magnificant?

L is learning to read. She's really doing it. She's sounding out words all over the place, putting together full sentences and I find her piecing together what the pages in her books say all of the time.

Her favorite books have chapters and lots of pages, but those still have to be read to her. After we finish 10 chapters about fairies and their adventures, we've been working on book reports together. We're exploring the concepts of main characters, secondary characters and plots. We're looking up words in dictionaries. She's copying titles and authors' names down in her best lower-case letters.

L is becoming literate before our very eyes.

As busy as all of this early reading has kept her, she still has time to share her new-found talent with her siblings.

And the boys love it!

Especially this one.

He's a captive audience for sure.

After all, he's not mobile yet.

Thankfully, big sis chooses edible literature for him.

For Baby H, reading involves all five senses.
