Today, This Heavenly Life hosted a day of reading recommendations, and since I'm often lifting ideas for library materials out of her offerings, I thought perhaps I'd try to contribute something. Our current stash from the local library leaves a little to be desired but we're heavily engrossed in holiday stories. Specifically, L is over the moon about The Nutcracker.
It's the perfect mix of Christmas magic, tense battle scenes and sugar-sweet travels through a fantasy world. Our version is tucked inside of this Christmas Treasury. Do you have a favorite version of this classic?
Today we discovered printable Nutcracker puppets and I also have aspirations of designing something like this for the characters when we get them all finished. All this while I'm inching ever closer to birth day? Why not?
What a great suggestion! I've got to see if we can find a copy of the Nutcracker -- it sounds like something we'd really enjoy.
ReplyDeleteAnd about your optimistically crafty plans...Murphy's law could prevail the moment you sit down to complete any project, making the baby come right then. Or having something creative but simple to do if you end up in an impatient waiting period could be a God-send. Either way, you win :)
I adored reading The Nutcracker with my mom when I was a little girl for all the reasons you shared :)
ReplyDeleteAnd that toy theater is awesome! Definitely a very cool idea that my oldest boy would go crazy about.
I got so impatient in my last month of pregnancy that I painted the bathroom! I think designing a theater from cardboard sounds much wiser and certainly not over-zealous ;)
I love all of this! The puppets, the theater and the book idea! I've found the certain copies of The Nutcracker to be a little strange, so I'm thrilled to have a recommendation from such a reliable, reading mom! Thanks!
